Giving Getaway seeks to be a travel project that strives against the stream and doesn’t play by traditional business rules. In order to prove that these aren’t just empty words, I would like to present my top 10 reasons why you should let Giving Getaway plan your next trip - and why this project has the potential to become the next big thing in travel industry!

Why Giving Getaway?

With over half the world's population, almost 4 billion people use social media in 2020, of which over 500 million people use Instagram every single day. [1] This and the fact that the average time spent on social networking was projected as 144 minutes per day explains why 75% of businesses identified social media and especially Instagram as the perfect  platform to promote their products and services. [2]

Among all relevant topics, traveling is on rank four given the frequency and aggregation of used hashtags. [3] Without knowing the exact number of travel related businesses like travel agencies and tour operators, these dimensions suggest the assumption that it’s A LOT of them.

Reasons no. 1 to 5

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did."

Mark Twain

It can therefore be concluded that there are plenty of businesses and people on several social network sites who know their stuff. People with amazing content and lots of traveling experience who offer their help in planning other people’s trips. And you know what? I am sure that they’re all doing an amazing job.

So, what is it exactly that makes Giving Getaway standing out from the common travel planner crowd? It is the fact, that Giving Getaway seeks to be a travel project that strives against the stream and

doesn’t play by traditional business rules. In order to prove that these aren’t just empty words, I would like to present my top 10 reasons why you should let Giving Getaway plan your next trip - and why this project has the potential to become the next big thing in travel industry!

1.  Greed for profit was yesterday, businesses of the future aspire to combine sustainable solutions in economy, ecology and society!

Doing good is good for business! More and more people seek to go with brands that use their impact to make charitable contributions, so why should the travel industry be an exception? Giving Getaway doesn’t claim to be the only travel related business that strives to do good. But it can be stated that Giving Getaway’s concept is an innovative attempt to connect travelers from all around the world by gathering and providing their knowledge and using it to build a bridge between traveling and charity.

As already mentioned above, traveling gets a lot of attention these days. Therefore, a connection between travelers and charity workers would unlock a huge potential to make this world a better place - and Giving Getaway is this connection! It’s the connecting piece that helps travelers to see the world, shows them how it’s possible to do good and finally forwards their donations to people who do their best in helping people in need and protecting the climate and our animals.

2.  No commission-based service - Independency first!

"If you don't eliminate any chance of being mercenary, fortitude will only be a question of price."

- Chris, Giving Getaway

While the most widespread way to earn money on social media is through advertisement, many (if not all) travel agencies make profits from getting a certain percentage from tour operators, hotel chains and car renting firms for every trip they sell, in short: their service is commission-based. Putting two and two together, Giving Getaway’s course seems to be clear, right? Wrong!

It is wrong, because this line of thinking excludes one crucial factor: people’s power! Big money from big firms don’t necessarily leads to big success. It might lead to calculability and to a certain degree of wealth and future-proofness, but that’s it. In contrast, relying on voluntary payments to ensure complete independence may be risky, but in the long run – and I’m completely sure about that – it will all pay off and result in a unique travel data base, a huge travel community and a large chain of good actions!

3.  Giving Getaway pools the knowledge that travelers and locals gained over years and decades to benefit from their expertise!

Recently, I asked myself what it is that makes an expert an “expert” - and I came to the conclusion that it's not that easy to define. Does visiting Paris make me a France expert? Of course not. So how many cities and regions do I need to visit until I can call myself a France expert? This, too, is hard to answer, as visiting Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg and Bordeaux doesn’t mean that I can tell anybody what to do at the Côte d’Azur. And even if I would have been there, my whole experience would be purely subjective.

The point I want to make is that it’s impossible for one single person to provide for all contingencies. Even if it was feasible, subjectivity would be the next big problem as every expert has his/her own understanding of different matters, true to the motto “ask two experts for advice and you get three different opinions.”

"We are all experts in our own little niches."

- Alex Trebek

Thinking about that, I came to the following conclusion: Instead of claiming to be the “expert of experts” and fighting my way through hundreds and thousands of travel planners, why not benefiting from their expertise and creating the world’s biggest data base of travel information – by people, for people! This way, Giving Getaway is in the position to access a wealth of information by reducing the risk of subjectivity at the same time. This leads to the following point:

4.  YOU are the center of attention: Customized travel plans and continuous support

“Giving is the master key to success, in all applications of human life.”

- Bryant McGill

Admittedly, this might not be the greatest sensation in the history of travel planning, but realizing it by pooling the knowledge of a huge network of travelers and locals from all around the world differs a lot from conventional approaches. This feature allows Giving Getaway to allocate all the available information based on YOUR personal preferences and on YOUR understanding of what is interesting and dispensable, cheap and expensive, relaxing and exhausting, in short: on your understanding of a perfect trip!

Above all, continuous support and your safety are Giving Getaway’s highest priorities! Whenever you find yourself in trouble while you are on the road, whether you miss your flight, pick up an illness or you lose your wallet, Giving Getaway takes all the necessary steps to help you out of these situations as soon as possible to ensure that you feel safe and secure throughout the whole trip - however long it may take!

5.  Pay-What-You-Want: Take a free walking tour around the world!

Did you ever take a free walking tour to discover a new city? If the answer is yes, then you are already familiar with Pay-What-You-Want (PWYW). PWYW is a pricing scheme where only the customer decides if, when and how much he or she pays for a product or a service. Giving Getaway guarantees that there will be no hidden costs, no words about prices and no subsequent payments.

Give it a shot, send a request and wait until the end of the trip or until the end of the planning process to see how everything works out before you decide whether to pay for it or not. Or you can pay by instalments, before and after the process. Or nothing at all - only you decide! And whatever you decide to do, rewarding me for offering a good service is not the only argument to consider making a voluntary payment. In fact, there are three more…

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.”

- Jaime Lyn Beatty
